So I've been terrible about getting this blog done so be prepared for a long but hopefully interest read this evening.
So here are the facts from Week One of my whole new world in Portland, OR:
-Moved into a victorian downtown apt. this is a dream come true for me...always wanted to be in the big city living in the middle of it all listening to the city move around me...(p.s. piano music at night has become an essential norm for me as that big city never sleeps and is incredibly noisey, gotta love the sirens, random shouts and louder than normal outburst from the bar below my building oh and my favorite being woken up by the weekly glass recycling truck at 4am) but after about a week I'd say I'm pretty much use to it and actually think I might miss the noise when I leave.
-Bought a new car! She's a beauty I think, pearl white Jeep Liberty Limited, leather, upgraded trim and rims, 4WD(1st time I've lived anywhere I'd need it..weird), it's a 2006 but was only used as a company car for about 20,000miles so it's basicly a 2008 (pics will be posted on Facebook tonight if anyone feels like viewing)
-Learned how to navigate the city on the Lightrail MAX
-Met alot of amazing people, I've never lived anywhere that has so many incredibly nice, genuine, helpful,healthy people it's incredible!I almost haven't known how to handle it, isn't that sad! oh and the whole super "Green", tree huggerish, hippies and organic lovin stereo types are completely true! But it makes for a healthy and sometimes commical type of enviroment for sure :)
-Went to my new ward & made new friends right away which is also amazing! Super great people that have been incredibly friendly and helpful I couldn't have asked for a better ward right now. Great activities and participation. The Spirit there is wonderful and the Bishopbrick and their wives are exceptional, I feel so blessed
-Enduring the uncharacteristicly cold temps of 15-30degrees brrr
-Started my new position it's definately been an adjustment going from being my own boss to having one again, going from 70hr work weeks to 40hrs a week & being home by 6pm is almost bazard for me but I'm slowly getting use to it and enjoying being able to have a life lol. I have to say though the enviroment is incredibly positive, genuine and progressive I count myself very lucky and am excited about the opportunity to bring my department to a whole new level! oh and the Educational field vs. corporate America ROCKS!look at me I already sound like a west coaster
So all in all it's been an action packed 1st week full of change, stress, fun and adventure. Christmas will be pretty lonely though how about we just forget about it this year?
